Shot Tracker

Chapter

[ 2015 ] iphone & apple watch App Design:

Early work in digital design, learning Figma & valuable lesson about the efficiency & need to do usability/ user testing early using lofi prototypes.

introduction

Partnered with a small startup aimed at creating iphone apps. The 2 developers/ founders brought me in to work on design. Their app idea was unique to the market with a primary focus on helping golfers track their golf shots/ progress specifically on the driving range.

Competitive Researh & Design

research/ strategy
competitive research

Many apps exist that serve a similar function on the golf course, but all only track shots played during a round. We looked at these competitors and their design/aesthetic as inspiration as they are widely adopted in the golfing community.

concept development

I lead efforts and created branding, digital marketing campaigns and the UI/UX design for the app itself. Refining the app, icon design and interface into a hi-fidelity prototype.

Prototyping, Usabiity Testing & Next Steps

PROTOTYPE

Development began utilizing this Figma prototype, but early usability testing revealed a problem…

ROADBLOCK
user testing

It became evident that golfers were less inclined to use the app if they had to pull out their phone/ input their shot info after every shot.

next step

It was determined that a watch app would also be needed to make shot tracking easier/ faster.

conclusion

The founders/ developers lacked the expertise to complete development on an apple watch app, lacking the budget to hire contractors and due to life events this project was shelved.
