A few weeks ago I came to a startling realization about how I was living my life, conducting my work, and going about my day-to-day process.
I was doing what I had been doing for the previous few months, which was not very much of anything productive or meaningful, and I started to think about the direction my life was taking.
I didn’t like what I saw.
I had been following a routine that included doing things that led to ZERO progress on my journey towards making a difference and creating and inspiring freedom and growth in people’s lives and businesses.
Experiencing a Descent
How could I help people progress on their own journey if I wasn’t progressing on my own?
Of course I knew that I couldn’t help anyone else if I couldn’t help myself. I had become lazy, bored, unmotivated, and basically gave in to being stuck in my progress.
That led to an entire range of negative feelings, actions, and results, which became my focus, ultimately leading to a new routine of self loathing, doubt, and non-movement.
This went on for a couple of months and to tell you the truth, I didn’t even notice. At least not until I consciously realized what I was doing to myself.
When you’re taking a journey that involves things like change, progress, movement, action, etc…you need to be prepared for what will come.
It’s all grand and good when you’re inspired, motivated, and moving forward, but when you’re not, you can quickly get yourself caught in a descent, which can become a routine itself if you’re not careful.
Getting Back on Track
Once I became aware of what I was doing to myself, I started forming a strong desire to change it again. I had been in a descent for quite a while, so I knew I had to really dig in and inspire myself to establish a new routine to escape.
That wasn’t the first time I had stalled and become stuck, so I had a few ideas to turn things around and start progressing again. In addition to progressing, I wanted to come up something that would allow me to keep progressing with fewer descents.
I needed to come up with a routine that would not only give me inspiration, motivation, and momentum to progress, but also help me grow into becoming more productive, focused, and perform at a higher level.
After some experimenting, I came up with a plan that I could implement right away, hopefully resulting in some quick results. It was a new routine that I would have to consciously force myself to act on because I’m horrible when it comes to habit changes.
Borromean S.H.I.E.L.D. Theory
In my search of a new routine, I came across some interesting information that led me to coming up with what I call the Borromean S.H.I.E.L.D. Theory. The S.H.I.E.L.D. theory is meant to help you attain optimal performance on your life’s journey.
I only recently came up with this theory, and if it works like I think it should, I will go into more detail later on.
Below is a diagram I came up with using borromean rings that led to the discovery of the S.H.I.E.L.D. theory.
The borromean ring S.H.I.E.L.D. theory includes using stillness, harmony, inspiration, exploration, love, and desire as a way to optimize performance for growth in life and business.
A S.H.I.E.L.D. is created by someone who aligns and interconnects their physical, mental, and spiritual health together with various practices intended to raise their ability to perform at an optimal level.
By focusing on core aspects of health, including mental, physical, and spiritual, and integrating them into daily life practices, the opportunity to perform at a more optimal level in areas of life that require it increase.
The idea is that when you develop your S.H.I.E.L.D., you are operating in your sweet spot, which leads to optimal performance. To do that, you need to form a routine that focuses on the development of your S.H.I.E.L.D. practices (stillness, harmony, inspiration, exploration, love, and desire), and use them as a tool to enter and maintain your optimal performance zone.
My S.H.I.E.L.D. Building Routine
This is the routine I have been using for the past couple weeks. I have gained greater clarity, focus, and vision for the future since I started. I have also felt better about where my new routine will lead me in the next few months, from an overall well being perspective.
You can use this process to establish your own routine based off the principles or follow this one. The idea is to put together a routine that will work for you and puts you on the road that leads you to improve your productivity, focus, creativity, and performance in both your life and business.
The first thing I did was discover an exercise from each of the three aspects of health (Mental, Physical, Spiritual) that I could implement into a daily routine, hopefully leading to better results, better performance, and overall greater progress on my goals and life journey.
I decided to implement a daily exercise program, meditation, and reading, which I thought would allow me to gradually work my way into the optimal performance zone and create my S.H.I.E.L.D. My thinking was that once I developed my S.H.I.E.L.D., I would be able to hold onto it, or at least recreate it with ease as I established my routine and turned it into a habit.
I chose P90X3 for my exercise program. I had done P90X a couple of years ago and I realized I did better at exercising when I was doing a set routine. With P90X, all I had to do was just show up, push play, and do the work. I figured I could do that with P90X3, but I would need to be inspired and motivated to turn it into a habit.
I chose to try meditation with binaural beats technology which was supposed to help put me in a deep meditative state much quicker than just sitting down, closing my eyes, and trying not to think.
I chose to use reading with intent as a way to increase not only my knowledge, but for purposeful, inspirational, and motivational purposes. I would only read material that resonated with my journey.
My Morning Routine
1. Wake up & focus on being present (10 min)
2. Shower with relaxing/inspirational music background (20 min)
3. Stretching on Inversion table maintaining presence and a clear mind (5-10 min)
4. Meditation with Binaural Beats Technology (10-15 minutes)
5. Purposeful, Focused Work (Creating, Writing) (1-2 hours)
1. Stretching on inversion table, focusing on presence and mindfulness (5-10 min)
2. P90X3 workout (30 min)
3. Play (1 hour)
4. Reading for inspiration & empowerment (30 min-1 hour)
5. Meditation without Binaural Beats technology (15-20 min)
6. Purposeful, Focused connecting/research (1-2 hours)
1. Reading for inspiration & empowerment (10-20 min)
As of right now, this routine is working well. My morning routine really puts me in a more focused and clear mindset, which allows me to be more productive in my work. The evening routine allows me to reconnect with my S.H.I.E.L.D. at the end of the day and helps me come down after my daily workout.
As far as I can tell so far, the biggest change for me is the ability to be more productive in my work. I believe adding meditation and presence exercises is helping me to clarify things, become more creative, and get things done.
Not even a month ago, I had too many things going on in my head, I couldn’t concentrate enough to get any work done. I can see this new routine working like I want it to, as long as I continue to follow it, I should continue to see improved results in my focus, productivity, and overall health and well-being.
I’d love to hear what routines or habits you use to become more productive, focused, creative, and perform at a higher level in your life or business. Please share in the comments
